Champion Alpacas. Colorado Roots.
High on Colorado’s Western Slope, Flying Iron Ranch raises exceptional Huacaya alpacas through thoughtful breeding, proven genetics, and a deep respect for the animals in our care.
Story
Built on Better Alpacas
We pair proven genetics with careful selection for fleece quality, conformation, temperament, and lasting value. Our diverse program includes celebrated lines such as Hemingway, Jeremiah, Zephyrus, Titan, and Quechua—giving breeders meaningful choices as they shape the next generation of their herd.
OUR FOUNDERS
Meet Flying Iron Ranch
Founded by Christine Brown and Jim Head in 2014, Flying Iron Ranch began with four foundation females and a clear purpose: build a herd of champion alpacas. Today, our program brings together elite, diverse bloodlines and a hands-on commitment to breeding, showing, and sharing outstanding alpacas. From champion herdsires and carefully selected females to mentoring and agisting for new breeders, we’re here to help others experience the alpaca lifestyle with confidence.
From Fleece to Something Special
Alpaca fleece is harvested annually without harm to the animal, then transformed into naturally soft, warm, and luxurious goods. We honor the full value of the fiber through our own ranch products and a curated selection of alpaca apparel, yarn, gifts, and home accessories—available in our farm store and at select events.
Whether you’re building a breeding program, discovering alpaca fiber, or planning a memorable ranch visit, Flying Iron Ranch offers a welcoming way to take the next step.
Rooted in Colorado
Set on 35 acres high on a mesa in Ouray County near Montrose, Flying Iron Ranch is shaped by wide-open country, mountain views, and the everyday rhythm of caring for alpacas. It’s where champion genetics, remarkable fiber, and genuine Western hospitality come together.
